I began this story with the assumption that Washington State, USA's Initiative I-1000, the 'Death With Dignity Act,' would be passed into law, and is the law of the land at the time of the story. Part of the story hinges on it.
Of special significance is Section 22, 'Written Request for Medication to End Life in a Dignified and Humane Manner,' or the document that my charas refer to as a "DWD on file."
